Here are 11 tips to keep your iPhone battery healthy

1. Avoid Extreme Temperatures

When using your iPhone, do you realize that it is way hotter on sunny days than on normal days? Yes, that’s right. And your battery drains way faster than usual. This is not only applicable to iPhones, but all types of phones.

Heat is the enemy of batteries. Don’t leave your iPhone in direct sunlight or a hot car. Also, avoid using it for extended periods in very hot or cold weather. However, phone accessories such as phone pouches can intervene in situations like this. Ensure to get one for yourself.

2. Manage your charge cycles

Lithium-ion batteries degrade over time with each charge cycle. A charge cycle is one full discharge and recharge. To minimize the number of charge cycles, avoid letting your battery completely drain and try not to charge it to 100% all the time.

Instead, aim to keep it between 20% and 80%. This might be difficult if you’re always using your phone. The best way is to activate the battery-saver option to alert you when your battery percentage drops to this level.

3. Enable Optimized Battery Charging

Wear can occur in batteries when overcharged. If you constantly charge your iPhone especially at night when going to sleep, there is every tendency for it to get overcharged and your battery life might be in danger.

However, there is a way out. The optimized battery charging option available in iOS 13 and later, learns from your daily charging routine. It delays charging past 80% until you need to use your phone. This can help to reduce wear on the battery. But if you have a lower-grade iPhone, avoid charging at hours when you won’t be available.

4. Reduce Screen Brightness

The display is one of the biggest battery drains on an iPhone. It is more severe especially when kept at the maximum. It gets worse when using live wallpaper.

However, lowering the brightness can significantly improve battery life. You can adjust the brightness manually in the Control Center or enable Auto-Brightness. The feature allows your iPhone to adjust the brightness automatically based on the ambient light.

5. Turn Off Location Services For Unused Apps

Almost every app on your iOS requires your location to function properly. Well, while this has its advantages, the disadvantage is that it drains your phone battery faster. But you don’t want to turn off your location totally because it’ll affect your phone functionality.

So what do you do? Go through your apps and turn off Location Services for any apps that don’t need it. Each app has this feature,  go to the app settings and put a stop to it. By doing this, you’ve successfully improved your battery health.

6. Turn Off Bluetooth When Not In Use

When you want to receive files with less data to your iOS you need a common connection like a Bluetooth connection. Well, it is obvious that several people, after using their Bluetooth, forget to turn it off. This is unhealthy for your battery, as it may cause the battery to drain faster than normal.

To avoid this, turn off your Bluetooth immediately after use. This will save your battery life and enable you to use your phone with much greater speed. So, the next time you don’t want to see that blue icon on the top of your screen while not in use.

7. Close Unused Apps

Do you know that unused apps play their parts in draining your battery life? That’s right. This happens when you open a particular app and then remove it by swiping it out from the app switcher. Most times, you feel like the app is closed but it doesn’t sometimes.

Swiping up on apps in the App Switcher doesn’t close them. It just suspends them in the background. To close an app completely, swipe up on it with a firm flick of your finger. By doing this, the app is completely closed and they won’t be spending time dragging your battery life in the background.

8. Use Low Power Mode

When your battery is running low on your iOS, switch to low power mode. This feature is designed to optimize and close some of the apps working in the background. It also reduces the brightness and features that would speedily run your battery down.

To locate this feature go to the settings and click on battery, you’ll see a toggle for Low Power Mode that you can turn on or off. For quicker access, you can add Low Power Mode to the Control Center. Once you’ve added it, you can swipe down from the top right corner of your screen

9. Update To The Latest iOS

Apple often includes battery improvements in iOS updates. This means that in every new software version, there is bound to be an increment of battery life to be collected.

So it’s important to keep your iPhone up to date with the latest software. By doing this, you’ll get the extended battery life available in the software. But ensure to have enough mobile data or wifi connection while undergoing this process.

10. Use Genuine Apple Chargers And Cables

Fake iPhone chargers and cables are available in the market today. While using them, it can damage your iPhone’s battery. Ensure to verify your source when purchasing your iPhone battery or charger

Furthermore, using third-party chargers is another issue. It’s always best to use genuine Apple chargers and cables or ones that have been certified by Apple

Background App Refresh is a feature on smartphones (both iPhones and Android devices) that lets apps update their content even when you’re not actively using them. This can be useful for some apps, but it can also be a battery drain. The more apps refresh in the background, the faster your battery drains.
